Artist’s Statement:

I have, for the past twenty years, studied, drawn and painted for the creative pleasure it gives me. I often remind myself of the need to invest time and intensity in my work, elements which are, along with technical skill, absolutely essential to the making of consistently good art. Emily Carr, a noted 20th century Canadian artist, was once told that “Art isn’t the reproducing of visual facts. It’s the difference between perception and conception. Once you learn that, you’ll never paint the same again” (as quoted from “The Forest Lover” by Susan Vreeland), words that strongly resonate with me.

I have concentrated on oil paint as my medium of choice and include still life arrangements and occasional portraits. My favored subjects, however, are landscapes, often including some form of architecture. Upon reflection, my artistic heritage includes 20th Century painters Edward Hopper and Fairfield Porter, two well known artists who were diligent in their efforts to create satisfying, understandable works of art
